By Cambridge Now Local news

How will changing demographics impact housing demand and availability in the future? What services or amenities will be required to meet future lifestyle needs? These questions and others will be explored at a housing forum organized by the Region of Waterloo and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

The Past is NOT the Future: Housing Choice and Demographic Change will be held on June 15, 2010, at the Waterloo Region Museum. Topics to be covered include demographic trends, housing market and demand, changing lifestyle choices and preferences, as well as future areas for research and study.

“The 2010 housing forum is a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of how changing demographics will affect our housing needs and demands,” said Rob Horne, the Commissioner of Planning, Housing and Community Services at the Region of Waterloo. “The forum will also provide the opportunity to generate new and exciting ideas in the home building and development industry”.

This forum is structured around keynote speakers, panel presentations and discussions targeted to a broad cross-section of the housing and development industry. Keynote speakers include:

David Foot, demographer, economist and bestselling author of Boom, Bust and Echo
Avi Friedman, award winning architect, author and columnist

Session presenters include:
CMHC
Barry Lyon Consultants
Environics Analytics

Waterloo Region Homebuilders Association

“This forum provides a unique opportunity for professionals to explore how the power of changing demographics, lifestyle trends and design innovation could be harnessed to shape the future of housing in the Region of Waterloo," said Peter Friedmann, General Manager, Ontario Region and Managing Director, Securitization, Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
